Turris Aldenardensis to become a tourist atrraction

Last summer the foundations of a large tower were unearthed in the city of Oudenaarde (prov. Eastern Flanders). The oldest historical source about this Turris Aldenardensis dates from 1064. The donjon was built as a response to the fortification of the German emperor in Ename, at the other side of the river Scheldt. In the 13th century the donjon was replaced by a trapezoid castle. The city council is currently investigating how these important archaeological remains can be exploited as a touristic attraction.
