Late-Roman apse found in Our Lady's Basilica
In the city of Tongeren (prov. Limburg) archaeologists continue the second phase of the complex excavation project in Our Lady's Basilica. Recently they unearthed additional parts of a house from the 2nd century AD and the 4th century apse of (probably) a church. The luxurious Roman house extends under the whole basilica. It probably burnt down in the 3rd century. On top of the remains of the house archaeologists have now found also the apse of a late-Roman building that most likely acted as a church.
